Hudson canyon DEEP-SEA DISCOVERY expedition

Be among only a handful of people to explore and directly observe one of the world's most biodiverse subsea hotspots. Discover new life forms, search for long-lost shipwrecks, and seek out a better understanding of the behavior of deep-diving whales and sharks.

Expedition Itinerary

The adventure begins as soon as you leave the dock

Embark upon your undersea adventure in the early evening aboard a luxury ocean-going motor yacht in lower Manhattan. As you get settled in your cabin and familiar with the vessel, we will promptly commence our journey to the seaward edge of the continental shelf and the head of the Hudson Canyon. Once underway you will join fellow crew members and research scientists for a formal mission safety and dive plan brief led by the Mission Director. The brief will include an introduction to the roles in which you will have the opportunity to participate in throughout the dive, the general process of readying the submersible and passengers for a dive, and specific dive objectives. Additionally, our mission oceanographic expert will present an overview of the many potential corals, sharks, whales and other sea life you may encounter and observe from the submersible.

In the morning you will awaken at our dive mission destination and enjoy a light breakfast and then transfer to the submersible for your into a life-changing experience of discovery with our scientific lead and your submersible pilot. During this completely untethered 3-5 hour dive you will be communicating with the surface, but free to explore and document the habitat.

As you descend over a mile deep into a completely new and foreign subsea universe the large viewport and high definition external cameras will give you an incredible view of the water column. You may be the first to observe and document a 40,000-year-old deep-sea coral, a new species, a long lost shipwreck, or you may catch a glimpse of deep-diving whales or sharks.

At the conclusion of the dive you will ascend back to the surface where the pilot will secure the submersible to recovery platform where you will emerge from the depths back to the familiar topside landscape. The topside support crew will then transfer you back to the motor yacht for a post-dive debrief and dinner with the entire mission crew before you retire to your cabin for the overnight motor back to New York City.
