New York City, New York
A rare opportunity to dive into one of the world's largest subsea canyons

Dive a mile deep into a fascinating and foreign world rarely seen by the human eye. You may be the first to observe an ancient deep-sea coral, discover a long lost shipwreck, or catch a glimpse of a deep-diving whale or shark, all while seeking to understand this subsea biodiversity hotspot filled with life that thrives in complete darkness.

Off the coast of New York and New Jersey awaits the Grand Canyon of the East: Hudson Canyon. Carved 10,000 years ago during the last ice age, it stretches up to 400 nautical miles out to sea and reaches depths of 3,500 meters. In fact, the canyon is two times as deep as the highest mountain on the East Coast. Some segments are greater than 7.5 miles wide! Most of this vast area, however, remains unexplored and unknown.

The Hudson Canyon presents avenues for multiple marine science fields and OceanGate’s submersibles offer the unique opportunity to be present with exactly where it is being collected.

Itinerary

Day 1Dive prep

Departing from the New York area, the crew will steam nearly 100 miles to the seaward edge of the continental shelf and arrive at the top of the Hudson Canyon. In coordination with expedition leaders, scientific partners, and safety officers, the dive team will ready themselves and their equipment to meet the day’s mission objective.

Day 2Dive

Following a morning brief and pre-dive checks, the topside crew will transfer the dive crew to the submersible. During the completely untethered 3-5 hour dive, the team will descend to the targeted depth and collect data and media for scientific study. At the conclusion of the dive, the entire team will convene for a post-dive debrief and celebrate the day’s success.

Day 3Post-dive

The team will arrive back in the New York area after an overnight steam home from the dive site. Upon arrival, the team will resupply and begin preparations for the next mission.
